Compassion hurts. When you feel connected to everything, you also feel responsible for everything. And you cannot turn away. Your destiny is bound with the destinies of others. You must either learn to carry the Universe or be crushed by it. You must grow strong enough to love the world, yet empty enough to sit down at the same table with its worst horrors. —Andrew Boyd (via purplebuddhaproject)

shinimegami:

It doesn’t matter how well-written, developed, and deep a character is, there will always be a group of people in the fandom that will reduce that character to 2 or 3 traits and then misinterpret everything they do based on those 2 or 3 traits which may or may not even be accurate to that character.

♠; one thing i dislike about my muse.

there’s only a few things i dislike about laguna, but the worst is probably that, despite laguna’s endless sympathy, he lacks in empathy. like a lot. he doesn’t quite understand that sometimes people need to be sad and have themselves a moment to feel and reflect, because that’s not the way he personally works. when life yanks the crank out of his back, he’s right on replacing it and winding himself up to keep going — there’s no point in being upset, so why waste your time crying when there’s always something to be done?

—which is something i both agree and disagree with, because it’s very practical and smart for most situations, but it’s also unhealthy, and i think laguna cripples himself with a mentality like this in regards to, say, raine’s death. plus it’s just hard to watch him tell terra and other, less perky characters to smile and lighten up when they are completely validated in feeling the way they do. it’s almost like he’s saying “Look, if I can keep it together, so can you.” and that sort of attitude really rubs me the wrong way. orz

; favorite moment from my muse’s canon & why.

on the surface, it seems like a really insignificant line, but tbh this moment is what shapes my personal interpretation of laguna and provides the foundation for how i play him, and it is: “Let’s talk when it’s all done. I have a lot to tell you… Well, if you don’t want to hear it, I’ll understand.”

laguna attempting to reach out to squall without being the overeager dimwit the fandom often makes him out to be is my favorite thing. he’s not running away from what happened (he did bury himself in his work for seventeen years without sending this kid so much as a birthday card or holiday fruitcake), he’s not forcing anything, he’s not trivializing the situation — he’s being understanding while maintaining the essence of who he is. namely, a family-oriented man whose leadership is comprised of fixing mistakes, and not all of them his to begin with.

i have a lot of feelings about this ok.

; if i could say just one thing to my muse, what would it be?

ahh i’d probably tell him that he still needs to work on his courage and not take things for granted so much. he also needs to get out of his head and just do, good grief—.
(also that i appreciate him and that it’s okay to cry.)
