“Hmmmm… no. But it ain’t like those robes are form flattering. I mean, there’d have to be girls, wouldn’t there? How else would they make little tonberries?”
Scratching his chin, Locke said, “Maybe they’re plants! And they blow their little spores into the wind like dandelions. That’s why they’re green.
“Clearly we’re just gonna have to catch one ‘n’ figure it out.”
❛ catch one? ——well, okay, man, but i’m not gettin’ stuck with the pointy end, you feel me? ❜
HE’S HEARD OF monsters capable of the human tongue. seeing them is a different story. he’d be lying if he said the thought wasn’t compelling in the least, but they’re talking in hypotheticals, and he’s mindful not to get ahead of himself lest his curiosity consume his sense.
❛ but it’d be pretty cute if they sprouted up like daisies, huh. ❜
❝ ‘trees that are slow to grow bear the best fruit’, or so they say. —- but it’s understandable. you could say the same thing about me and music. ❞
which was much worse still than she’d care to admit. her smile quickly dissolves into subdued laughter, lithe frame bent in small consideration.
❝ that depends……are you suggesting one?❞
❛ well, it’d be pretty dumb of me not to take a master up on her offer, right? i know a good deal when i see one. ❜
HE HASN’T BEEN GRACED with her musical talents, or lack thereof, if he’s to take her word for it, but he can only guess how well matched their shortfalls truly are. still, he’s committed to learning if she’s serious about a lesson or two. the laughter feels like an affirming reassurance, and he loses the pinch to his shoulders, relaxed.
outofcharacter. absolutely agreed, apart from writing for squall. this is refreshing. it’s why i headcanon in return that squall doesn’t see him as a father, but deals with him just as he would anyone else. accordingly from square one.
( going off the sheepish — if somewhat aloof — tone laguna takes with squall come end-game, i imagine he anticipated as much. he’s definitely walking this strange tightrope between not wanting to come off overly friendly but needing to remain true to himself. it’s almost as if he has to question what he would do in any situation involving squall as if squall really was no one to him — which must be challenging, considering kiros mentions that squall looks “very much like [Raine]”. i mean laguna openly questions his own plans and seeks squall’s reassurance when, naturally, laguna is confident in the soundness of his work. it’s like he’s forgetting himself. )
laguna isn’t a dad. he isn’t. i don’t know how best i can emphasize this or how many times i have before, but laguna is not and has never been the dad the fandom absolutely glorifies him as. he’s just a man who impregnated his wife and left ( for a very noble reason but that doesn’t change anything lmao ). he was an uncle to ellone for a time period over six months but less than a year. uncle. and squall? yeah, right. showing up at the end of the game and offering a private talk does not in any way constitute parenthood.
look, i love dad jokes as much as the next tumblr user, but lauding laguna for a job he did not do is pretty gross, alright? awesome.
